We all have the right to ask our government what is intended for us; and we should also remember that we (community member) have the right to be informed about the program and services of the the government. We have the right to ask questions, and you should also remember that as barangay official you have responsibilities to your respective constituents. Hence, do not hesitate to ask questions if there is a needs to be clarified, be a good Filipino citizen and obey the Laws of the Philippine, he stated. This the powerful word from ASEC. Alexander L. ASEC Macario made a surprise visit during the conduct of sessions on the roles and functions of Barangay Based Institution, a capacity building activity for the Barangay Local Government Units of Cotabato under the BARMM special geographic area (SGA) being implemented under the PROTECT Peace in BARMM Project funded by Global Community Empowerment and Resilient Fund (GCERF) in partnership with Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society (CBCS) and Integrated Maguindanaoans Association for Natives (IMAN).

The forum is one of the initiatives of PROTECT PEACE IN BARMM PROJECT to improve people’s participation in local governance via more inclusive and better-capacitated barangay development councils and peace and order councils to address issues of marginalization, poor governance and lack of basic social services in remote and conflict affected areas, unaddressed justice and protection issues that are push factors of violent extremism being implemented in 70 selected Barangays in BARMM also in collaboration with Ministry and Interior and Local Government – BARMM

The training was participated by 28 Barangay officials from 5 Barangays of Carmen, Cotabato namely Brgy. Kitaluan, Brgy. Kibayao, Brgy. Tupig, Brgy. Nasapian and Brgy. Pebpoloan. Also present in the forum was DILG Region XII Regional Director Josephine C. Leysa and Hon. Mayor Moises Orendain of Carmen Cotabato. The mayor expressed commitment that while the transition is on-going with the BARMM, the local government of Carmen will continue to support the 7 Barangays who are now part of the BARMM-SGA, accordingly at the end of the day they are still part of the town.
