In a bid to strengthen democratic participation among internally displaced persons (IDPs), a voter education session was successfully held today, May 9, 2025, for IDP youths in Marawi City, Cotabato City, Maguindanao, and Manila. The session was followed by a gathering of young leaders from various civil society organizations (CSOs), fostering collaboration and planning ahead of the upcoming May 12, 2025 midterm elections.
The initiative was spearheaded by the Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development Foundation, Inc. (PLCPD), in partnership with the Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society (CBCS) under the support of the UNHCR for Peacebuilding Fund. It aimed to equip displaced youth with the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices at the polls.
Youths shared their valuable insights to be pillars of a peaceful and honest election.
As futures of the modern era, these youths aim to lend their voice and maximize the responsible use of social media in advocating for a better country.
This initiative underscores the critical importance of inclusive and informed electoral participation, particularly among marginalized groups such as IDPs, whose voices are often overlooked in political processes.
After the education session, a network meeting brought together young CSO leaders for a kumustahan (catching up) session and to finalize plans for election day monitoring and observation. The event provided a platform for open dialogue and strengthened unity among youth advocates committed to peace, development, and inclusive governance in their communities.
