In a significant development for the community of Omar, Sulu, three (3) people’s organizations received a livelihood support package on April 22, 2024, in a ceremony under the PROTECT-Peace in the BARMM Project, overseen by Gagandilan Mindanao Women, Inc. (GMWI).

The Usbawaris Abaca Farmers Association and Ugdok Hulah Abaca Farmers Association were each provided with Abaca Spindle Machines, while the Niangkaan Women’s Association received Coconut Processing Equipment. The event, graced by the presence of Municipal Mayor Hon. Abdulbaki J. Ajibun, together with the LGU officials, MAFAR-MMO, PCA-Sulu, and other members of the people’s organization, marked a pivotal moment for the recipients as they were equipped with essential tools to enhance their livelihood activities.

Project Officer Alimudin M. Mala and Project Development Officer Halima G. Alfonso, representing the CBCS team, expressed their gratitude to the LGU of Omar for their support and acknowledged the dedication of the farmers and mothers set to benefit from the support packages.

PDO Alfonso emphasized that the turnover ceremony signified a new beginning rather than an end to the PROTECT-Peace Project, highlighting the importance of ongoing monitoring to ensure the sustainability of their livelihood.

Hon. Ajibun echoed these sentiments, urging the recipients to maximize the opportunity and be grateful for the chance to increase productivity with the provided machinery. He also extended appreciation to the CBCS and GCERF for selecting their municipality for the program and recognizing the positive impact it would have on the community.

The Promoting Resilient and Organized Citizenry towards Empowerment and Community Transformation for Peace in the BARMM (PROTECT-Peace in the BARMM) Project is a three-year project agreement between the Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society, Inc. (CBCS) and Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) that aims to build people’s capacity for peacebuilding and socio-economic development in the BARMM.
