BTA Bill No. 32, officially known as the Rights of Internally Displaced Persons Act of 2024, passed its third and final reading today, September 27, 2024.  With the unanimous vote from 36 lawmakers, this will be known as Bangsamoro Autonomy Act No. 62. This bill aims to safeguard the fundamental rights and protection of internally displaced persons and displacement prevention, leading towards durable solutions.

As the State has the primary responsibility for internal displacement, the Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society, Inc. (CBCS), in partnership with UNHCR, is committed to supporting any advocacy that would come up with an institutionalized focus on IDP concerns.

This bill is the first in the IDP law passed not just in the country but in the entire Southeast Asia.
