A community Project on Vegetable Production initiated by the Siyap ko Farmers Associations Farm started their project rolling even before funding arrives.

This was learned from the community leaders in an activity entitled “CSO-Community Orientation on Project Implementation” conducted by the Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society (CBCS) to an identified MILF Community in Barangay Abaga, Baloi, Lanao del Norte. The leader, President of the Siyap ko Farmers Farm Organization, Amerodin Mautante Daud said, “starting from the time we had been identified by the civil society organizations (CSOs) of Lanao Norte as pilot project area, our organization set regular monthly meetings in preparation for a much hope assistance from any line agencies”. The community is expecting an immediate assistance from Transitional Development Impact Fund (TDIF) of Hon. Minister Atty Raisa H. Jajurie of the Ministry of Social Services and Development – BARMM.

The series of meetings resulted on consensus that the members scheduled a one day in a week Bayanihan System as their contribution for the start of their identified project which resulted to an initial one-hectare vegetable field which is now starting to grow. This was achieved through sharing of each members available vegetable seeds. In addition, the organization also able to build a multiple center made from woods and bamboo material also a contribution from its members.

The community project was conceived under the Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society (CBCS) project better known as “Transforming Alliance for Prosperity and Good Governance” (TAP-G) aiming at “capacitating CBCS CSO Network member organizations in order to contribute for successful transformation process of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.”

The selection process was made by more than a dozen CSOs operating in Iligan City and Lanao del Norte areas following criteria as stipulated under the Annex on Normalization agreement between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) signed on January 25, 2014, in particular under the “Decommissioning of MILF Combatants” item No. 3 which states among others: “3. To achieve the above goal, a comprehensive need assessment shall be undertaken for the members of the BIAF and their communities as a basis for a comprehensive socio-economic development program.”

In his orientation, TAP-G Project Coordinator Mike Kulat emphasized that: “The project is neither MILF nor GPH initiatives but it is a CBCS own share in popularizing some provisions of the GPH-MILF Peace Agreement that will benefit and improve lives of the MILF/BIAF and MNLF Communities”, being considered as war-ravaged, poverty-stricken communities as a result of more than five-decades armed conflicts.

He further elaborated that: “The project is only a sample in modeling of an economically resilient communities of the MILF/BIAF and MNLF, in order to showcase and demonstrate to GPH and MILF Implementing Panels the viability and urgency of implementing these provisions of the peace agreement which is their sacred duty to fulfill.”
