After the September 14, 2026 First BARMM Parliamentary Election, I witnessed the fruit of the Peace process and the Peace Agreement through this historic election- the democratic process where the Bangsamoro People cast votes and choose their future.
Before this, as Cluster Coordinator in Ranaw Region, we contributed small but significant work for Peace:
Our Journey started from calling for peace during the MOA-AD issue and the 2008 war between the MILF and the government; to the signing of the Framework Agreement (FAB) in 2012, the signing of Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) in 2014; the establishment of Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) tasked to draft the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) and supporting the BTC in every City and provincial consultation; calling for Peace during Mamasapano incident that derailed the implementation of the CAB and the work of the BTC; the Marawi Siege of 2017 that affected the Peace Process; the signing of Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) in 2018; the established of Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA); the call for the extension of the BTA in 2022; and the two extensions of elections later.
And now, we have generally peaceful election in Lanao del Sur and Marawi City according to the commission on election (COMELEC). This is History. The CSO witnessed the journey of finding Peace, choosing Justice and reconciliation.
Eighty (80) seats in the BARMM Parliament were proclaimed—40 seats for party representatives, 32 for district representatives, and 8 for sectoral representatives.
This is not the end. This is continuing commitment to accompanying the BARMM and sustaining peace and development, human rights advocacy, good governance, and transitional Justice. This is part of the Peace Agreement. The CSOs and other sectors must observe and continue monitoring the implementation of peace agreements and the BARMM government.
This is the self-determination of Bangsamoro. The CSOs in Ranaw Region (Lanao Del Sur and Marawi City) are working for Peace, Justice and development, and the challenge now is how to work with the BARMM government in its start of regular governance?
