The Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society showed its support to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao as the members of the CBCS Zamboanga Sibugay Region participated in the recent event entitled “Forum on Updates on the status of Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) and Bangsamoro Autnomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and Bangsamoro Communities outside BARMM held at Pagadian City Gymnasium, Zamboanga Del Sur last January 11, 2020.
The said event was presided and sponsored by BTA Majority Leader, Atty. Lanang Ali Jr. who also gave updates on the status of BTA-BARMM. He stressed the importance of giving clear answers to the questions of the Bangsamoro on the current journey the BTA-BARMM is taking. As he said, an event such as the Forum on the updates on the status of BTA-BARMM is one of their ways to inform the public. He also acknowledged the important role of the Bangsamoro Communities outside the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Mindanao or also known as the “BCOBAR” towards progressive Bangsamoro communities.
To backtrack, the BARMM was the result of the successful plebiscite on the YES to BOL held in January – Febuary 2019. This is a major milestone in the BM struggle for their Rght to Self-Determination and to attain sustainable peace and development in the region. However, Atty. Lanang said that BARMM still has several fundamental challenges to overcome and with this, he asked for the cooperation and participation of all Bangsamoro people to support the BTA-BARMM towards achieving what is best for the Bangsamoro people.
The event was a blast as it had 8, 983 registered participants both Bangsamoro and non-Bangsamoro who are members of various sectors, i.e., women , the Indigenous People , youth , business , Moro Professionals, Non-Moro Professionals and others. During this event, CBCS was recognized as an official and active participant.
Top Local Government Executives led by the Provincial Governor of Zamboanga Del Sur, Hon. Victor J. Yu and Congresswoman of Zamboanga Del Sur, Hon. Divina Grace C. Yu, and Mayor of Pagadian City, Samuel Co attended the activity as well as the MILF political leaders of Western Mindanao Front led by Hon. Malik Caril who led the successful preparation of the Forum.
Prof. Sahie Udjah of Sulu, who came together with the Majority Floor Leader of the BTA spoke of his gratitude for the large number of participants who came, as part of the concluding messages.
